"Cancer will kill nearly 10 million people this year..." Response
The article by Jen Christensen published to CNN titled “Cancer will kill nearly 10 million people this year...,” caught my eye because I could connect to it on a personal level. My grandmother is fighting colon cancer and doesn’t have much time left. Therefor I wanted to do some research. I agree with this article because so many people have lost loved ones to this disease. In the article it states, “By the end of the century, cancer will be the No. 1 killer globally and the single biggest barrier to increasing our life expectancy…”, but how long is the average life expectancy now? It also explains, “One in eight men and one in eleven women will die from the disease...The global population is growing, and more people means more cancer." Are they are trying to say if we stop having children the cancer will spread less? That doesn't make sense. Cancer is probably the number one cause as to why we are loosing people so young, in my opinion. I hope the research to find a cure pays off soon.
Your connection to the topic is great and the title of your article is great for catching attention and good at keeping it, your responses are put into the text very well and you leave off the article with a question your source material didn't answer and was a great question to ask the person who wrote the original article.

ReplyDeleteI loved how you connected this article to you and your life, and showed how much cancer is affecting the world. Also, I'm so sorry about your grandmother, and hopes that she improves. I also liked how you used quotes from the articles and made your response clear and coherent, so that it was easier for your reader to understand what it was that you were talking about.
