Synthesis and Reflection

Media Law (1/2 PAGE) One thing i have learned from Media Law is that there are restrictions in what you can post and what you can't post. A new concept for me was obscenity, i didn't exactly know the word for that kind of content and it was interesting to learn more about it. Obscenity is one of those things where its either this or that, and in this case it would be inappropriate, explicit, or overall offensive. As a journalist though i feel like ill be able to decide what is obscene or not, or i will be able to depict weather or not i can post an article regarding that topic. In real news though i feel like a journalist or reporter would know better when it comes to posting articles. Im going to think differently about it as a writer because there are things that i don't find explicit or offensive as a person but might find it explicit or inappropriate as a writer. Obscenity is important because before you publish that article you are responsible for how you see it. Fo...

Mr. Johnsons Profile

“Coming here was like moving into a country club,” -Mr. Johnson Robert Johnson grew up in inner city Detroit, Michigan, and originally wanted to move to Georgia where majority of his extended family was. He didn't have any relatives in Detroit besides his parents, so really, he wanted to be closer to his extended family, but during some events he eventually decided to give another place a try.    “In high school, when there was an after school activity or game, it would have to be immediately after school so rival gangs from across town couldn’t come and create fights.” He said in an interview. Passing his peers in the hallways at school he would hear racial slurs, police officers were everywhere, and there were even metal detectors at every entrance and exit, “They made us go through metal detectors before entering school most days, which meant multiple people would end up throwing things out of their pockets and even running the opposite way. Some people e...

Is Heteronormative Really the Normal?

Heteronormative adjective denoting or relating to a world view that promotes heterosexuality as the normal or preferred sexual orientation. Normal. What is it? Being straight? Bisexual? Girl? Boy? Blonde hair? Blue eyes? Is there really even a normal? Being a heterosexual and cisgender (identifying as the gender you were at birth) you really don’t have to explain yourself, but if you are anything in between you do. But here is the thing; You don’t owe an explanation to anyone! It’s no one’s business but your own who you are attracted to, how you identify (as a woman, as a man, as a woman sometimes and a man other times, or whether you don’t identify as any gender), and how you express your gender or non-conforming gender identity. Certainly, there are a lot of labels. For many people, they’re a way of identifying themselves and discovering their identities. Others, on the other hand, choose to avoid labels altogether. In our world, we commonly think of gender as just male an...

"Cancer will kill nearly 10 million people this year..." Response

The article by Jen Christensen published to CNN titled “Cancer will kill nearly 10 million people this year...,” caught my eye because I could connect to it on a personal level. My grandmother is fighting colon cancer and doesn’t have much time left. Therefor I wanted to do some research. I agree with this article because so many people have lost loved ones to this disease. In the article it states, “By the end of the century, cancer will be the No. 1 killer globally and the single biggest barrier to increasing our life expectancy…”, but how long is the average life expectancy now? It also explains, “One in eight men and one in eleven women will die from the disease...The global population is growing, and more people means more cancer." Are they are trying to say if we stop having children the cancer will spread less? That doesn't make sense. Cancer is probably the number one cause as to why we are loosing people so young, in my opinion. I hope the research to find a cur...

Ethans Profile

Capturing a beautiful outfit in front of him is one of Ethan’s favorite things to do. While most teenagers have many pictures on our phones and devices, Ethan takes photography to another level. Most teenage boys won’t have a single thought about photography or even fashion for that matter, Ethan on the other hand is so involved its became a hobby of his. He believes that clothing and fashion gives you the opportunity to express your own personality and show yourself off. Having a passion for something most kids hide about themselves is really inspiring.             Besides taking pictures, Ethan does have a real teenage boy style. He is really into cars, and he really enjoys working on said cars. His favorite type of car is the JDM model. JDM stands for “Japanese Domestic Market”, Ethan likes to go for a sporty yet foreign vibe when it comes to vehicles.
